I am amazed.
In the article ‘Fear of a Black President’ the author makes the claim that President Barack Obama has never dealt with race throughout his term of being president. I do agree with this…President Obama has never dealt with race throughout his presidency. This article really has me fired up because I feel like it is an over analyzed article trying to depict through quotes, interviews, and President Obama to show some type of racism when in reality it does not exist. Being a black president is loads of pressure and I can only imagine. If President Obama puts any type of political, media breaking, or any other type of issue categorized into race he would out of line. It would give the entire world something to talk about if President Obama talked about anything with race.
I agree with the argument that Obama has yet to talk about race. Why would he? It would give all the people who dislike something else to talk about the reasons why they dislike him being in office. I honestly do not understand why race is such a big issue. I don’t understand why racism still exists. Race would be the center of America’s attention if he spoke upon it. This article has a lot of quotes from different people who the author uses to make his claim.
As far as my approach to research, I would want to interview President Obama himself to get his insight because no one knows what he is thinking but himself and I would like to get many interviews from people who dislike him and care so much as to why he never brings the subject of race into any of his decisions that he makes. I don’t understand why that is such a worry to so many people.
I am confused as to what I should write about. I am not sure and looking at the list provided this is causing me to do critical thinking which I am not good at doing and it makes my brain hurt. When it comes to writing, I am always indecisive about what I should write and I always need constant approval step by step. Here are some possible topics that I’ve been thinking about:
- The dominance of male and female in a marriage/relationship.
- Effects of rape/molestation on males and females in their childhood.
- The origins and cultural significance of African-American names
For the first one, it generated from a class discussion from Women’s Studies. We talked about what defines dominance. And we definitely had an opinion of men are dominate because they are males and eighty percent of us felt that this was untrue. We discussed so how do we classify dominance in a relationship. For the second one I am always amazed at how many people I meet or observe and you find out the history of people…and it either makes or breaks them. For my third topic, I stole it off of the list that was given to us on the handout.
The topic I think will be suitable for a semester long project is the effects of rape/molestation on males and females. Not only am I concentrating on one gender but both genders. Also I would like to research rape and molestation as they are similar but also completely different. I would be interested in the lifelong effects from the time the rape/molestation occurs until the time he/she is older.
Prison Without Walls by Graeme Wood was a very interesting read to me. The issue in the article focused on how prisons, governments, and whoever else saved money by having the BI ExacuTrack AT. Also I feel like it focused on the mindset or social behavior it had on the people that were required to wear these tracking devices. And basically this was a tracking device placed on the leg that located your every move.
The writer himself chose to put the tracking device on himself to get the same experience the convicts were getting. By doing this he went through everything the convict went through and experienced everything the convict experienced. Wood also incorporated statistical data and a few lines of a brief interview with someone who wore the tracking device by force.
The article was well written and very easy to follow which is perfect for me. I try to make my writings easy flowing and understandable because I hate reading and having to highlight and reread the article. Also it has to do how passionate I am about the topic and if I enjoy researching the topic. If I don’t have one hundred percent into something I am writing about then nine times out of ten my writing will reflect that.
As far the tracking devices go, I sort of feel like it is inhumane to have these big devices on your log for extended periods of time. They are a great way to cut down the cost and governments save a lot of money. It also keeps our prison system less populated with the not so vicious crimes. Someone can be creative to think of a better way to monitor these convicts out on the streets. Honestly they can decrease the size of them. As far as technology has progressed they can make the devices a thinner band with a tracking device built inside of them. The device is a great way to cut down the expense but they can upgrade to a better way of the tracking devices being more discreet on the body.
